Language
Dzongkha (language of the Dzong) which was originally spoken only in the western Bhutan came to become the national language in the year 1971 and is widely spoken throught the country. There are over 19 different dialects and are very uncommon to each other. Besides Dzongkha there are other three dominant languages which is again spoken widely. It includes lhotsamkha or Nepali; spoken widely in southern Bhutan; Bumthangkha, spoken in central Bhutan; Tshanglakha, spoken in eastern Bhutan. English is commonly spoken and is the medium of instruction in the schools. In the traditional and monastic schools Choekey, classical Dzongkha is used.
